Performing writing

Tutor: Rolf Hughes

Purpose
The purpose of this course is to develop practical writing and performance skills for business situations. The course is designed for professional people who have to represent their company and its values through any form of writing, including letters, speeches, newsletters and web texts. Writing is regarded as the creation of an appropriate "voice" - a performance script - and emphasis is therefore placed on developing creative writing strategies to create and sustain an engaging relationship with readers and, in performance, an audience. Typically executives, information managers and all those who wish to develop the effectiveness of their written and spoken English presentations will benefit from the insights and skills generated by this course.

Course description
The course develops practical communication skills. Since the workshops will encourage learning through doing, participants will be expected to undertake a series of both individual and collaborative writing and performance exercises. Participants will also be encouraged to critique constructively other participants' assignments and thereby develop the critical skills that are an integral part of creative thinking.

The course is taught in English by Rolf Hughes, an experienced English theatre director, writer, communications consultant and university lecturer in creative and critical writing.
