Critical
"Truth is not born nor is it to be found inside the head of an individual person, it is created between people collectively searching for truth, in the process of their dialogic interaction."
Mikhail Bakhtin

What do we learn when we say we are learning something? We learn a way of talking about the world - effectively, we 'learn a language' - and if enough people have consented to 'talk' about the world in a similar way then this language becomes inseparable from our professional identity, shaping the way that we perform our chosen roles. Considerations of language therefore become inseparable from those concerning action.

At Metamorphosis, we aim to redraw the boundaries between traditional disciplines, encourage a more rigorous dialogue between academic thinking and professional practice, nurture the capacity to explore paradoxes, uncertainties, and shifting points of view, and thereby forge insights and productive conversations across and beyond subject areas, institutions, and workplaces.

Through research we combine critical and creative thinking to develop new partnerships and perceptions. That is why for over 10 years Rolf Hughes has been bringing together leading scholars, writers, performers, business leaders, and philosophers, organising conferences and publications as part of an international, multi-disciplinary research initiative on skill acquisition, knowledge formation and design methodology in technology.
