"What a curious feeling!" said Alice. "I must be shutting up like a telescope!"

Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Border lines

A group of Scandinavian anarchists have declared themselves citizens of borderlessness. They occupy the unused land between existing perimeters, checkpoints, rivers which moonlight as national boundaries; they claim to be thereby exempt from legislation, taxes, military service.

They rejoice when empires fragment and new nations are born as, with every new border, more land accrues to their stateless state.

It is said that among their numbers there are several members of the Society for the Preservation of Alienation, although this cannot be verified since they have never, by necessity, met or even spoken.

Why "creative" writing?

There is no better way of investigating our surroundings, our assumptions, our relations to others than via novels, stories, plays, poems, prose poems, philosophical dialogues etc.

A good writer will evaluate every perspective while simultaneously seeking the most truthful expression of an idea. This requires courage and the capacity for critical self-reflection.

Good writing exercises our imagination. It allows us to cast off habits of thought and think the unthinkable.

The world is transformed by acts of imagination.
